Charge it all the way up before you use it the first time. It holds about one full phone charge, and it only reaches its full capacity after two or three complete cycles - so the first few days are not the measure of it.

One button, four lights, three colours

Each colour means something different, and that is the whole interface. White - the power bank is charging itself; the four lights fill as it goes and all four lit means full. Green - wireless charging is on. Blue - something is drawing power through the USB-C port.

On the pad

Press the button once, the light turns green, and the magnet pulls your phone into place and holds it while it charges. Press again to stop. It gives up to 15 W wirelessly, stepping down to 10, 7.5 or 5 W for phones that ask for less.

It snaps onto MagSafe-compatible iPhones and MagSafe-compatible cases, and charges through a case up to about 3 mm thick. A thicker case, a metal one, or a card holder in between will weaken the grip or stop the charging - take the phone out of the case if it is not holding.

By cable, and this is the part nobody tells you

The same USB-C port that fills the power bank also puts power out, at up to 20 W, with real 9 V and 12 V fast-charge profiles. So a phone that fast-charges over a cable will charge noticeably quicker this way than on the pad.

It also carries a PPS profile, which lets a phone ask for a precise voltage instead of a fixed step - that is the mode modern Samsung and Pixel phones use for their best charging rates, and it is uncommon on a power bank this size.

Which way should you use?

The pad is the convenient one and the cable is the efficient one. Charging across a gap always loses some energy as heat - that is how wireless charging works everywhere, not a fault in this one - so the same charge in the bank gets more charge into your phone over the cable. Use the pad to put the phone down and walk away; reach for the cable when the bank is nearly empty and you want every last percent of it.

Taking it on a plane

At 5000 mAh - about 18.5 Wh - it sits well under the current limits for power banks in hand luggage. It has to travel in your carry-on, never in checked luggage. That rule is about the battery, not about this product, and it applies to every power bank.

Looking after it

It has a lithium-ion battery in it. Keep it dry, keep it away from fire and from anything above 212°F, and do not take it apart or keep using it if it is damaged. If it ever looks swollen or smells odd, stop using it, do not charge it, and tell us - and batteries go to a recycling point, never in household waste.

A few honest notes

There is one port, and it does both directions - so it is either filling itself or charging your phone by cable, not both at once.
