Wall & Desk Clock

Set the year first. Everything else follows from it - and it is why a brand new clock can show the right date on the wrong day of the week.

The year is the one that matters
The clock does not ask you for the weekday. It calculates it from the date and the year, and it leaves the factory set to 2000. Until you change the year, the weekday stays wrong no matter how carefully you set the day and month. This is far and away the most common thing people write to us about, and it takes about fifteen seconds to fix.
Six buttons, all on the back
Top row UP, MODE, SET. Bottom row DOWN, AL, C/F. AL goes straight to the alarm; C/F switches the temperature between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
Setting the time and date
Press MODE once. 12 Hr blinks - press SET to keep it, or the arrows to switch to 24-hour. Then the fields come in order, each one UP or DOWN and then SET: hour, minutes, year (it will be showing 2000 - do not skip it), month, date. The weekday corrects itself at the end.
Getting rid of an alarm
Silencing a ring is not the same as clearing the alarm. Press AL, then SET five times until the display reads -:- -, then MODE three times to get back to the time. The ALARM marker at the top right disappears - that is how you know it took.
Timer and birthday reminder
MODE steps through four screens in order: 12/24 hour, alarm, birthday, timer. So MODE three times reaches the birthday reminder and four times reaches the countdown timer.
Desk or wall
One part does both. Swing the stand out and it stands on a desk; fold it back in and it uncovers a slotted hole that drops over a nail or a screw.

A few honest notes

Batteries Two AA, not included There is no backup cell either, so a battery change starts the setup over. Year first again.
Backlight None It is a plain LCD, which is what lets a pair of AAs run it for a long time. The trade is that it needs room light to read.
Daylight saving You change it yourself No radio, no internet. Run the sequence above and press SET straight through every field you do not need to touch.
Temperature The room, measured at the clock In direct sun or above a radiator it will read that, not the room.
Display Time, day, date, weekday, temperature
Alarm sounds Nine, numbered 1-9, with snooze
Size 7.0 in wide by 7.9 in high
Weight 290 g

If parts of the digits go missing, that is the display itself and not the batteries - fresh cells will not bring them back. Tell us and we will sort it out.
